ROM 1:16-18 ForI am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation toeveryone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it{the} righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it iswritten, "\But the righteous\ {man} \shall live by faith.\" 18 Forthe wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousnessof men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

Parable oftwo debtors: Luke 7:41‑43

LUK 7:41-43"A certain moneylender had two debtors: one owed five hundred denarii, andthe other fifty. 42 "When they were unable to repay, he graciously forgavethem both. Which of them therefore will love him more?" 43 Simonanswered and said, "I suppose the one whom he forgave more." And Hesaid to him," You have judged correctly. "

MAT 18:21-25Then Peter came and said to Him, "Lord, how often shall my brother sinagainst me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?" 22 Jesus *said to him,"I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. 23"For this reason the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a certain kingwho wished to settle accounts with his slaves. 24 "And when he had begunto settle {them,} there was brought to him one who owed him ten thousandtalents. 25 "But since he did not have {the means} to repay, his lordcommanded him to be sold, along with his wife and children and all that he had,and repayment to be made.

JUSTIFICATION: declared innocent in court

By law: Rom 2:1‑16, esp vv 2,11,13

ROM 2:1-16, espvv 2, 11, 13 Therefore you are without excuse, every man {of you} who passesjudgment, for in that you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you whojudge practice the same things. 2 And we know that the judgment of God rightlyfalls upon those who practice such things.... 11 For there is no partialitywith God.... 13 for not the hearers of the Law are just before God, but thedoers of the Law will be justified.

By grace: Rom 3:19‑31, esp vv 20,24,26

ROM 3:19-31, espvv 20, 24, 26 Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those whoare under the Law, that every mouth may be closed, and all the world may becomeaccountable to God; 20 because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justifiedin His sight; for through the Law {comes} the knowledge of sin....

24 beingjustified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in ChristJesus;... 26 for the demonstration, {I say,} of His righteousness at thepresent time, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faithin Jesus.

Dirt fromguilt of sins: 1 Cor 6:9‑11

1CO 6:9-11 Or doyou not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do notbe deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, noreffeminate, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor {the} covetous, nordrunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11And such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified,but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spiritof our God.

Cleansed asbride prepared for Christ:Eph 5:26‑27

EPH 5:26-27 thatHe might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with theword, 27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, havingno spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she should be holy andblameless.

By washing ofregeneration: Titus 3:5

TIT 3:5 He savedus, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, butaccording to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the HolySpirit,

HEALING: from disease

Sin asdisease: Ps 38:1‑8;Isa 1:1‑6; Jer 30:12‑15

PSA 38:1-8 (APsalm of David, for a memorial.) O \Lord\, rebuke me not in Thy wrath; Andchasten me not in Thy burning anger. 2 For Thine arrows have sunk deep into me,And Thy hand has pressed down on me. 3 There is no soundness in my fleshbecause of Thine indignation; There is no health in my bones because of my sin.4 For my iniquities are gone over my head; As a heavy burden they weigh toomuch for me. 5 My wounds grow foul {and} fester. Because of my folly, 6 I ambent over and greatly bowed down; I go mourning all day long. 7 For my loinsare filled with burning; And there is no soundness in my flesh. 8 I am benumbedand badly crushed; I groan because of the agitation of my heart.

ISA 1:1-6 Thevision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, concerning Judah and Jerusalem which he sawduring the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, {and} Hezekiah, kings of Judah. 2#Listen, O heavens, and hear, O earth; For the \Lord\ speaks, "Sons I havereared and brought up, But they have revolted against Me. 3 "An oxknows its owner, And a donkey its master's manger, {But} Israel does not know,My people do not understand." 4 Alas, sinful nation, People weighed downwith iniquity, Offspring of evildoers, Sons who act corruptly! They haveabandoned the \Lord\, They have despised the Holy One of Israel, They haveturned away from Him.

5 Where will yoube stricken again, {As} you continue in {your} rebellion? The whole head issick, And the whole heart is faint.

6 From the soleof the foot even to the head There is nothing sound in it, {Only} bruises,welts, and raw wounds, Not pressed out or bandaged, Nor softened with oil.

JER 30:12-15"For thus says the \Lord\, #'Your wound is incurable, And your injuryis serious. 13 'There is no one to plead your cause; {No} healing for {your}sore, No recovery for you.

14 'All yourlovers have forgotten you, They do not seek you; For I have wounded you withthe wound of an enemy, With the punishment of a cruel one, Because youriniquity is great And your sins are numerous. 15 'Why do you cry out over yourinjury? Your pain is incurable. Because your iniquity is great And your sinsare numerous, I have done these things to you.

Healing fromsin: 2 Chron 7:14; Ps41:4; Jer 30:15‑17

2CH 7:14 and Mypeople who are called by My name humble themselves and pray, and seek Myface and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, willforgive their sin, and will heal their land.

PSA 41:4 As forme, I said, "O \Lord,\ be gracious to me; Heal my soul, for I have sinnedagainst Thee."

JER 30:15-17'Why do you cry out over your injury? Your pain is incurable. Because youriniquity is great And your sins are numerous, I have done these things to you.16 'Therefore all who devour you shall be devoured; And all your adversaries,every one of them, shall go into captivity; And those who plunder you shall befor plunder, And all who prey upon you I will give for prey.

17 'For I willrestore you to health And I will heal you of your wounds,' declares the \Lord\,'Because they have called you an outcast, saying: "It is Zion; no onecares for her."' #

Christ thehealer: Isa 53:5; 1 Pet2:24

ISA 53:5 But Hewas pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities;The chastening for our well‑being {fell} upon Him, And by His scourgingwe are healed.

1PE 2:24 and HeHimself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin andlive to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.

RECONCILIATION: no longer enemies

Sinners asenemies of God:

  They hate Him: Ps 2, esp vv 2‑3,8‑9,10,12

PSA 2:1, esp vv2-3, 8-9, 10, 12 Why are the nations in an uproar, And the peoples devisinga vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth take their stand, And the rulers takecounsel together Against the \Lord\ and against His Anointed: 3 "Letus tear their fetters apart, And cast away their cords from us.... 8 'Ask ofMe, and I will surely give the nations as Thine inheritance, And the {very}ends of the earth as Thy possession. 9 'Thou shalt break them with a rod ofiron, Thou shalt shatter them like earthenware.' " 10 Now therefore, Okings, show discernment; Take warning, O judges of the earth.... 12Do homage to the Son, lest He become angry, and you perish {in} the way, ForHis wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!

  He hates them: Ps 11:5; Rom 8:7‑8

PSA 11:5 The\Lord\ tests the righteous and the wicked, And the one who loves violence Hissoul hates.

ROM 8:7-8because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does notsubject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able {to do so}; 8 andthose who are in the flesh cannot please God.

Reconciled byChrist: Rom 5:8‑11;2 Cor 5:18‑20;

  Eph 2:12‑22; Col 1:20‑22

ROM 5:8-11 ButGod demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners,Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood,we shall be saved from the wrath {of God} through Him. 10 For if while we wereenemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more,having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only this,but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we havenow received the reconciliation.

2CO 5:18-20 Nowall {these} things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ,and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 namely, that God was inChrist reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses againstthem, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Therefore,we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were entreating through us;we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

EPH 2:12-22{remember} that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from thecommonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having nohope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who formerlywere far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For He Himselfis our peace, who made both {groups into} one, and broke down the barrier ofthe dividing wall, 15 by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, {which is} the Lawof commandments {contained} in ordinances, that in Himself He might make thetwo into one new man, {thus} establishing peace, 16 and might reconcile themboth in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death theenmity. 17 \And He came and preached peace to you who were far away, and peaceto those who were near\; 18 for through Him we both have our access in oneSpirit to the Father. 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, butyou are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household, 20 havingbeen built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ JesusHimself being the corner {stone}, 21 in whom the whole building, being fittedtogether is growing into a holy temple in the Lord; 22 in whom you also arebeing built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.

COL 1:20-22 andthrough Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through theblood of His cross; through Him, {I say}, whether things on earth or things inheaven. 21 And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind,{engaged} in evil deeds, 22 yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshlybody through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless andbeyond reproach‑‑

ADOPTION: of child into family

Sinners assomeone else's children:Hos 1; Jn 8:31‑47;

  Eph 2:2‑3; 1 Jn 3:8‑10

HOS 1(:1-4) Theword of the \Lord\ which came to Hosea the son of Beeri, during the days ofUzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, {and} Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and during the days ofJeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel. 2 When the \Lord\ first spokethrough Hosea, the \Lord\ said to Hosea, "Go, take to yourself a wife ofharlotry, and {have} children of harlotry; for the land commits flagrantharlotry, forsaking the \Lord.\" 3 So he went and took Gomer the daughterof Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son. 4 And the \Lord\ said to him,"Name him Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will punish the house ofJehu for the bloodshed of Jezreel, and I will put an end to the kingdom ofthe house of Israel....

JOH 8:31-47Jesus therefore was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If youabide in My word, {then} you are truly disciples of Mine; 32 and you shall knowthe truth, and the truth shall make you free. " 33 They answered Him,"We are Abraham's offspring, and have never yet been enslaved to anyone;how is it that You say, 'You shall become free'?" 34 Jesus answered them,"Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin.35 "And the slave does not remain in the house forever; the son doesremain forever. 36 "If therefore the Son shall make you free, you shall befree indeed. 37 "I know that you are Abraham's offspring; yet you seek tokill Me, because My word has no place in you. 38 "I speak the things whichI have seen with {My} Father; therefore you also do the things which you heardfrom {your} father." 39 They answered and said to Him, "Abraham isour father." Jesus *said to them, "If you are Abraham'schildren, do the deeds of Abraham. 40 "But as it is, you are seeking tokill Me, a man who has told you the truth, which I heard from God; this Abrahamdid not do. 41 "You are doing the deeds of your father." They said toHim, "We were not born of fornication; we have one Father, {even}God." 42 Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would loveMe; for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have not even comeon My own initiative, but He sent Me. 43 "Why do you not understandwhat I am saying? {It is} because you cannot hear My word. 44 "You are of{your} father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He wasa murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because thereis no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own {nature;}for he is a liar, and the father of lies. 45 "But because I speak thetruth, you do not believe Me. 46 "Which one of you convicts Me of sin? IfI speak truth, why do you not believe Me? 47 "He who is of God hears thewords of God; for this reason you do not hear {them,} because you are not ofGod."

EPH 2:2-3 inwhich you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according tothe prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in thesons of disobedience. 3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts ofour flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were bynature children of wrath, even as the rest.

1JO 3:8-10 theone who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from thebeginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, that He might destroy theworks of the devil. 9 No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seedabides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10 By this thechildren of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does notpractice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love hisbrother.

Adopted byGod: Gal 4:5‑7;Rom 8:14‑19,21,29

GAL 4:5-7 inorder that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receivethe adoption as sons. 6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spiritof His Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" 7 Therefore youare no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.

ROM 8:14-19, 21,29 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but youhave received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba!Father!" 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we arechildren of God, 17 and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirswith Christ, if indeed we suffer with {Him} in order that we may also beglorified with {Him.} 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this presenttime are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.19 For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing ofthe sons of God.... 21 that the creation itself also will be set free from itsslavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God....29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined {to become} conformed to theimage of His Son, that He might be the first‑born among many brethren;

REGENERATION: a second birth

Unfit bynature: Ps 14:1‑3;Jer 13:23; Rom 3:10‑18

PSA 14:1-3 (Forthe choir director. {A Psalm} of David.) The fool has said in his heart,"There is no God." They are corrupt, they have committed abominabledeeds; There is no one who does good. 2 The \Lord\ has looked down from heavenupon the sons of men, To see if there are any who understand, Who seek afterGod. 3 They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; There isno one who does good, not even one.

JER 13:23"Can the Ethiopian change his skin Or the leopard his spots? {Then} youalso can do good Who are accustomed to doing evil.

ROM 3:10-18 asit is written, #"\There is none righteous, not even one\; 11 \There isnone who understands\, \There is none who seeks for God\; 12 \All have turnedaside, together they have become useless\; \There is none who does good\,\There is not even one.\ " 13 "\Their throat is an open grave\, \Withtheir tongues they keep deceiving,\" "\The poison of asps is undertheir lips\"; 14 "\Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness\";15 "\Their feet are swift to shed blood\, 16 \Destruction and misery arein their paths\, 17 \And the path of peace have they not known.\ " 18"\There is no fear of God before their eyes.\" #

Born again: Jer 31:33‑34; Ezk 11:19‑20;Jn 3:3‑8; Tit 3:5‑6

JER 31:33-34"But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel afterthose days," declares the \Lord\, "I will put My law within them, andon their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be Mypeople. 34 "And they shall not teach again, each man his neighbor and eachman his brother, saying, 'Know the \Lord\,' for they shall all know Me, fromthe least of them to the greatest of them," declares the \Lord\, "forI will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more."

EZE 11:19-20"And I shall give them one heart, and shall put a new spirit within them.And I shall take the heart of stone out of their flesh and give them a heart offlesh, 20 that they may walk in My statutes and keep My ordinances, and dothem. Then they will be My people, and I shall be their God.

JOH 3:3-8 Jesusanswered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is bornagain, he cannot see the kingdom of God." 4 Nicodemus *said to Him, "Howcan a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into hismother's womb and be born, can he?" 5 Jesus answered, "Truly, truly,I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter intothe kingdom of God. 6 "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and thatwhich is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 "Do not marvel that I said toyou, 'You must be born again.' 8 "The wind blows where it wishes and youhear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it isgoing; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit."

TIT 3:5-6 Hesaved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, butaccording to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the HolySpirit, 6 whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,

RESURRECTION: from death

Sin as death: Prov 2:18; 9:18; Lk 1:79; Rom 8:6; Eph4:18

PRO 2:18 For herhouse sinks down to death, And her tracks {lead} to the dead;

PRO 9:18 But hedoes not know that the dead are there, {That} her guests are in the depths ofSheol. #

LUK 1:79 \Toshine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death\, To guide ourfeet into the way of peace. "#

ROM 8:6 For themind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life andpeace,

EPH 4:18 beingdarkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God, because of theignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart;

Raised fromdead: Eph 2:1‑7;Col 2:8‑15

EPH 2:1-7 And youwere dead in your trespasses and sins, 2 in which you formerly walked accordingto the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air,of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. 3 Among them wetoo all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of theflesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He lovedus, 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together withChrist (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up with Him, and seatedus with Him in the heavenly {places}, in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in theages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindnesstoward us in Christ Jesus.

COL 2:8-15 Seeto it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception,according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles ofthe world, rather than according to Christ. 9 For in Him all the fulness ofDeity dwells in bodily form, 10 and in Him you have been made complete, and Heis the head over all rule and authority; 11 and in Him you were alsocircumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the bodyof the flesh by the circumcision of Christ; 12 having been buried with Him inbaptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the workingof God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 And when you were dead in yourtransgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive togetherwith Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, 14 having canceledout the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us {and} which washostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to thecross. 15 When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a publicdisplay of them, having triumphed over them through Him.

2CO 5:17Therefore if any man is in Christ, {he is} a new creature; the old thingspassed away; behold, new things have come.

GAL 6:15 Forneither is circumcision anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation.

EPH 2:10 For weare His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God preparedbeforehand, that we should walk in them.

EPH 4:24 and puton the new self, which in {the likeness of} God has been created inrighteousness and holiness of the truth.

COL 3:9-10 Donot lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its {evil}practices, 10 and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a trueknowledge according to the image of the One who created him
